Choline Chloride for Animal Feed

Poultry & Fish Feeds

Choline, known as Vitamin B4, is a water soluble vitamins. It plays a significant role in nutrition, but its daily requirement seems to be hundreds of times greater than that of other vitamins.

Choline chloride is added as a standard ingredient to premixes and as an additive to feed preparations for a variety of monogastric animals. Not only traditional poultry and pig feeds, but also exotic species like ostrich and sturgeon are fed with feeds supplemented with this traditional and widespread feed additive.

Recommended usage on basis of Choline Chloride 60% vegetable carrier (gram/mt feed)

  • Pigs: 500~800
  • Rabbits:1000~1700
  • Cold water fish:1300~1700
  • Warm water fish:500~800
  • Shrimp:500~5000
  • Meat chicken:500~800
  • Laying hen:250~500

Milk Cow Feeds (Rumen protected Choline)

Why do we need choline?

With the development of the dairy technology and the continuously improved performance of dairy cattle, exogenous choline is needed as high lactating cows can't absorb enough natural Choline.

Why is the Rumen protected Choline necessary?

Studies tell us that dietary choline chloride is easily degraded by rumen microbial, while high doses of choline chloride will affect the ingestion; besides, choline chloride is strongly hygroscopic. Therefore, it's extremely important to protect choline chloride from the rumen and to make sure that it will be absorbed in the intestines. Rumen-protected choline (RPC) application method is considered to be one of the safest and practical.

What's the effect of RPC?

Choline, known as retinoid, can aid a cow's fat metabolism, influence the incidence of ketosis, improve the immune function, reproduction and production performance of the perinatal high-yielding dairy cows. Therefore feeding perinatal cows with rumen-protected choline is regarded as one of the most important way to alleviate fatty liver, improve cow metabolism, increase intestinal choline supply, and finally to improve milk production & milk composition.

Time to add choline

Perinatal is one of the most important periods during dairy farming, as dairy cows are subjected to great physical stress when converted from their dry period. Manifested as decreased feed intake in early lactation, it is attributed to a negative balance of energy and protein, resulting in descending production performance and reproductive performance. In particular, high-yielding dairy cows that encounter stress are often accompanied by the occurrence of perinatal diseases, such as fatty liver, ketosis, mastitis etc., which caused great losses to the dairy production. Therefore RPC is mainly used in perinatal applications.
